The 2019 Serra USA District 12-2C Spring Leadership Planning Conference (SLPC) took place April 27, 2019 at Church of the Ascension in Overland Park, KS. Twenty (20) representatives from all three district clubs attended. Atchison (1), Johnson County (8) and Kansas City in Kansas (11). The day began with Mass celebrated by Monsignor Tom Tank. After Mass, Monsignor Tank addressed the attendees and thanked them for their support for vocations and agreeing to be leaders of their respective clubs. He also expressed his personal commitment to Serra reminding all of that in the past, he was chaplain for the KCK and JOCO clubs.
The District Governor, Jim Burns, lead the discussion that included a PowerPoint presentation developed by Mike Downey, the Central Region Director. Jim modified the presentation to support our district needs.
The purpose of the Conference is to assist in the orientation of new Club Officers and also to allow Officers of all Clubs the opportunity to interact with each other. Topics included details on: how Serra International works with its ten Councils; the Regions that comprise the USA Council; Benefits/programs offered to each Club via the USA Council; how clubs work; and discussion of the four main functions of a club – vocations, programs, membership and communication.
Discussion was also related to just District 12-2C issues. Jim presented his 2018-19 goals and their status. He also reviewed common activities both intra-Kansas and with Missouri Serra clubs. There was good participation by attendees and after discussion, it was agreed that Jim will set up an additional meeting for all three clubs to attend and will include all officers and trustees. This meeting will be in early summer and last no more than 90 minutes. Presidents will be responsible for generating the agenda – with assistance from Jim as requested. Jim also shared an updated District 12-2C Master Planning Calendar. He informed attendees that he would using dates/items from Mike Downey’s 2019-2020 Regional calendar and distribute to all Presidents which was sent on May 12, 2019. Presidents are requested to add their Club’s activities and provide to Jim. The Vocations Office as also been requested to provide their calendar so their activities can also be displayed in Master Calendar.
